Green Eyes: A Poem of Unrequited Love

Your green eyes, your sweet green eyes,
Shining, defying, they beckon to me.
Your eyes, my sweet, sure demise,
Pull me into a deep, emerald sea.

Cascading in pale, perfect pieces,
Shards of jade endlessly swirl.
Like a leaf with small, curious creases,
Around bright, black voids, they curl.

Glowing, sparkling, your eyes laugh at me.
With annoyance, the green depths churn.
Softening, they betray sympathy,
But, O, how those pale eyes can burn.

With anger, leaves burst into flame;
Jet black lashes border like smoke.
Sharp jade edges are fast to blame.
Fault descends, a heavy, green yoke.

But through the jade depths, true love can shine.
At its light, all darkness will flee.
With my own eyes, I beg you, “be mine.”
For those looks are not meant for me.

Turning away, you greet your own love,
And you leave me without a “goodbye.”
Alone, I implore the skies above,
But cold grey never seems to reply.

I try to forget you with all of my might;
In my heart, a sharp jade shard still lies.
The envy that gnaws at my soul day and night
Is as green as your sweet, green eyes.
